Farmers Fight! TAMU Ag Advocacy 2012- This event, which will promote agricultural advocacy and awareness throughout the Texas A&M campus, is building steam as committee chair Mason Parish mobilizes leaders and students throughout the College of Agriculture and beyond to take part in this great movement to promote agriculture among the Texas A&M student body and even into the Bryan/College Station community. A little back story- After some anti-ag blogs were posted on the A&M newspaper's website, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho came together and formed an Ag Advocacy committee to dispel the destructive myths flying around about modern agriculture, while promoting a positive, informative image of agriculture on the A&M campus. From there, we've gained tremendous momentum in putting Farmers Fight! together, as well as enthusiastic support from various ag organizations, including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences itself. This is an incredible opportunity for the Beta Nu chapter, as well as all Ag-based student organizations, to stand up and speak out in support of Agriculture- the common thread that unites and sustains us all. Some incredible possibilities and opportunities are in the making with the progress of Farmers Fight!, so BE SURE to check out the Farmers Fight! facebook page, where you can stay up-to-date on the latest news about our work and view the link to our blog posts! And if you tweet, don't forget to check out the Farmers Fight! twitter feed for even more news and updates from the committee work.
That's all I've got for now; I'll be back soon with more news from the Beta Nu chapter. Until then, Gig 'em and God Bless!

While some brothers merely changed offices, others decided it was time to take charge and become the new leaders of the Gamma Beta chapter.
On January 23, 2012, former Noble Ruler Corey Moomaw swore in the new incoming Noble Ruler, Jade Meinzer. Jade's first task as Noble Ruler was to then swear in the remaining VNR officers of 2012. This new class shows great promise and has the drive to be extremely successful in all matters relating to Gamma Beta and Alpha Gamma Rho. The new officer class is as follows:
VNR Recruitment - Jay Kindler
VNR Operations - Randy Sheffield
VNR Activities - Garrett Kahrs
VNR Finance - Kirk Woodruff
VNR Scholarship - Curtis Satran
VNR Planning - Frank Ringleman
VNR Membership Development - Jacob Holcomb
VNR Alumni Relations - Cole Mangers
Other positions filled for the 2012 year include:
Chaplain - Corey Moomaw
Bingo Liaison - Joe Penning
IFC Representatives - Mike Jack & Kevin Elpers
Webmaster - Craig Nations
While it is imperative to maintain a strong leadership foundation for growth and development, it is also equally important that we remember why we are in college to begin with. The last day of the 2011 Fall semester also meant the last day of college for some Gamma Beta brothers. Brothers Taylor Myers, Devin Spears, and Jared Grauerholz were moved to Alumni tonight, as they complete their tenure at Fort Hays State University. We wish them the best of luck in all future endeavors and are very honored that we were given an opportunity to know them and impact their lives. To new alumni Clayton Kershner, who transferred to a new school over winter break, we also wish the best of luck in his journey to a higher education.
With the 2012 Spring semester just underway, we hope that all brothers and friends of Alpha Gamma Rho continue to find success in all aspects of life; and better not only themselves, but all those whose paths they may cross.

Gamma Beta Fundraisers

BINGO! The thoughts that follow such a word are mostly comical. Senior citizens sitting in rows, dabbing number after number, all for a chance to win a little extra money while killing a lot of time; or so most people seem to think. BINGO! The thoughts that follow such a word are mostly comical. Senior citizens sitting in rows, dabbing number after number, all for a chance to win a little extra money while killing a lot of time; or so most people seem to think. However, at the Bingo Haus, the site of one of Gamma Beta’s fundraisers, this is not the case. Granted, everything just mentioned does happen, and quite frequently, there’s more to it than just dabbing numbers. The people who play their frequently are very friendly and encompass a wide range of ages and backgrounds. As long as the caller doesn’t read the number wrong, or use balls from the N column when the N’s shouldn’t be used, everything goes pretty smoothly. Even with the occasional harsh word from the playing audience, the funds acquired from this event are enough to snuff out any thoughts of giving up. From August 2010 through May 2011, Gamma Beta will raise around $10,000. This money, coupled with funds raised from selling firewood, make up a large portion of our yearly income. Each bingo session is typically handed by five brothers. Experienced brothers typically take up caller and finance positions, with newer brothers serving as floor runners or selling pull-tabs. Each brother is on a positional rotation so that no one becomes too overwhelmed by bingo or senior citizens. There is a direct correlation between our success in bingo and our significantly low yearly dues. Because of bingo, Alpha Gamma Rho has the cheapest dues of any Greek organization at Fort Hays State University.

From April 11-15, Fort Hays State University will be host to the annual Greek Week Games. Held in the spring semester each year, it is a time when all the Greek organizations can come together for some friendly competition. On Monday, April 11, all organizations met at the Alpha Gamma Delta residence for Greek Serenading. While the event was held during last year’s Greek Week Games, this would be the first time the event would count for points and would see participation from both fraternities and sororities. With the theme being Wild West related, the gentlemen of Alpha Gamma Rho felt confident that if any event were theirs for the taking, this would be the one. Rightly so, they showed up in their rodeo finest; some wore a button up and jeans, others brought chaps and spurs. Their songs for the evening, aside from some chapter chants, included ‘How Bout Them Cowgirls’ by George Strait, and ‘Wagon Wheel’ by Old Crow Medicine Show. Roughly fifteen brothers participated and were in high spirits throughout the competition. With Brother Bruce Figger playing guitar, Alpha Gamma Rho would use a mash-up of the two aforementioned songs to win the competition. Following their first place finish at Serenading, the gentlemen’s success would waver later in the week. Even so, Alpha Gamma Rho would capture a very respectable third place in the final standings, and a solid foundation to build upon for next year’s Greek Week Games.

On March 31, 2011, the gentlemen of Alpha Gamma Rho met at the Fort Hays State University Memorial Union to participate in the annual Walk-A-Mile event hosted by the Center for Student Involvement. Each year, the Walk-A-Mile event is held just prior to the Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of domestic violence against women. Every year, men from Alpha Gamma Rho and the other fraternities on the FHSU campus gather to take a stand against domestic violence. As a demonstration of their awareness, the men strap on high heels make a mile long trek around the Fort Hays State campus, a parade that is witnessed by faculty, other students, and anyone else who happens across their path. At the end of the fraternal migration, a small ceremony is held within the Union, at Cody Commons. Here the gentlemen are received warmly by the founders of Jana’s Campaign, the non-profit organization to which the event benefits. Following the warm welcome, many are brought to tears by the tragic story of how Jana’s Campaign came into being, as told by her step-father. Following the speaker’s explanation, a check is presented to the founders of Jana’s Campaign. The money comes from donations by various student organizations and local businesses, and is given to Jana’s Campaign in hopes that one day we may reach a life where domestic violence is not an issue.

Colony at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.
This action officially established the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho and recognized those men who were instrumental in its formation. Unfortunately, one man who played an instrumental role in the formation of the colony earned his degree the semester before the initiation ceremony took place and, thus, was not officially initiated as a member of Beta Sigma Chapter.
On February 19, 2011, almost twenty years after the installation of Beta Sigma, the men of Pi Chapter once again had the honor of initiating a member of Beta Sigma Colony--Scotty Duvall.
Brother Duvall was that colony member who graduated and was never officially initiated. The ceremony took place at the Alpha Gamma Rho Leadership Seminar in Ft. Worth, Texas. The members from Pi Chapter participating in the initiation were Carson Horn, Kale Castner, Kyle Slagell, Clark Bixler, Brock Pittman, Mitchell Earl, and Josh Goff. The initiation of Brother Duvall was arranged by Brother Cody Lane, Alpha Gamma Rho Regional Vice-President.
